One way that states in America create a sense of community is to designate symbols. Common choices include a song, motto, flag, animal and bird. On the gardening side, there are state trees, flowers, vegetables, fruits and even soils. 49 of these states have chosen trees that are naturally found within their boundaries. The one exception is Hawaii - the kukui tree (Aleurites moluccana) was brought to the islands from the Indo-Malaysian area. Click on a state to see the state tree. Other gardening-related state symbols are included if they have been chosen. ![]() Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming |
