Kumquat - Citrus

Latin Name: Fortunella spp.

Native To: China

Preferred Zones: Zones 9-11. Can be grown in Zone 8 with protection.

Size: The kumquat will grow 4-15' tall, depending on variety.

Exposure: Full sun

Soil: Kumquats need soil that drains well and is nutrient-rich.

Notes: Technically speaking, the kumquat (Fortunella spp.) is not a citrus fruit. It was separated out into its own genus around 1915, but it is very closely related. The name kumquat means "gold orange" in Chinese. There are also crosses such as the orangequat, calamondin and limequat.
