Recommend Good Local Plant Nurseries Here

One of the best ways to ensure that your trees and shrubs will do well in your yard is to choose plants from a reputable nursery. It's important to find out where the good nurseries in your area are located.

One service that I would like to provide on my site are nursery recommendations for each state. However, I have only shopped at nurseries in California, Utah and Oregon, myself.

I would love to hear what everyone's favorite nurseries are in their state. What makes them great - the healthy plants? the excellent service? the prices? You can also recommend online nurseries if you have favorite ones.

You may leave them as a comment here, letting me know what name you want it attributed to. You may also email me at treesandshrubs.guide@about.com. I am eagerly awaiting your suggestions - thank you!

I’m from the Pacific Northwest, Lakewood Washington to be exact, and I recommend The Garden Shop at Lakewold Gardens for anyone looking for the special “specimen” plant. The proprietor, a cheerful lady by the name of Vickie, prides herself in carrying the unusual and uncommon and gladly supports local and independent nurseries. All her plants are fully hardy (she won’t carry anything that isn’t) and there is plenty of variety and selection. When visiting Lakewold Gardens, be sure to give yourself time to browse through the Garden Shop as not only does she carry plants but the best selection of unique gardening tools available. You won’t be disappointed in this quaint, quirky and wonderful shop!

What a great idea, Nessa! My favorite nursery in Evanston, IL (just north of Chicago) is Anton’s, a family owned business smack-dab in a residential neighborhood 1126 Pitner Ave just south of Dempster. Great selection of perennials, annuals, and starter veggies, organic pest management and soil amendment products, and except on the busiest Saturdays of the season (usually late April to mid-May), staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. They’re knowledgeable on the busy days, too, just not as accessible. :-) Here’s their URL: http://www.antonsgreenhouses.com/
